A suspected gas escape is not a boiler repair - it is an emergency. Turn off the gas supply at the meter if it is safe to do so, do not operate any electrical switches, do not use naked flames, open doors and windows, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 straight away. Do not use your mobile phone inside the property.
If you have no heating, close internal doors, keep curtains drawn and use extra layers and blankets. Use electric heaters only if they are in good condition and never leave them unattended. Do not use gas hobs, patio heaters or barbecues to heat a room.
